World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated by vegans around the world on 1st November. The day was first established 23 years ago in 1994 by Louise Wallis, a UK celebrity who was President & Chair of The Vegan Society at the time.
World Vegan Day also kicks off World Vegan Month, which is also celebrated around the world as a time to recognise how far the vegan movement has come, to highlight how accessible and beneficial a vegan lifestyle can be and to encourage the vegan-curious to adopt veganism by sharing advice, recipes and ideas.
There are many different reasons why people go vegan, each person is an individual with their own opinions, priorities and motivation. However, the quote below pretty much sums up all the reasons there are, in one. It’s something that stuck with me and made me think. I hope it will with you too.
“As far as eating animals is concerned, humans are the most stupid animals on the planet. We kill billions of wild animals to protect the animals we eat. We are destroying our environment to feed to the animals we eat. We spend more time, money and resources fattening up the animals that we eat, than we do feeding humans who are dying of hunger. The greatest irony is that after all the expenses of raising these animals, we eat them; and they kill us slowly. And rather than recognize this madness, we torture and murder millions of other animals trying to find cures to diseases cause by eating animals in the first place.”

Personally, I’m celebrating World Vegan Day by eating some glorious rocky road from the vegan café I am lucky enough to work at. I couldn’t decide between the regular one, or the white chocolate one, so I went for both.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and if you aren’t vegan then why not try it for a month? Head over to The Vegan Society website and take the pledge!
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
Peace and Love, Sian
